Gravel Driveway Repair & Regrading in East Tennessee

East Tennessee's heavy rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles take a toll on gravel driveways. Potholes, ruts, washboarding, and erosion develop over time and get worse with each storm. We regrade, redistribute existing gravel, and restore proper drainage so your driveway holds up better through the seasons.

    Common Driveway Problems We Address

    • Potholes that reform after every rain
    • Ruts from vehicle traffic or water flow
    • Washboarding on slopes and braking areas
    • Erosion along edges and shoulders
    • Loss of center crown causing water to pool on the surface
    • Uneven surfaces and settled gravel

Is Driveway Repair Right for You?

If your gravel driveway has developed ruts, potholes, or drainage issues but still has enough base material to work with, regrading can restore the surface without starting from scratch. We mechanically scarify the existing gravel, redistribute it, re-establish the center crown, and shape the surface so water sheds to the sides instead of pooling.

If the driveway has lost significant gravel depth or has underlying drainage problems that wash out the surface repeatedly, additional gravel or drainage corrections may be needed alongside the regrade.

    Our Service Levels

We offer three levels of driveway restoration. The right choice depends on the condition of your driveway and how finished you want the result to be.

    Essential Regrade

A machine-focused restoration that smooths major potholes, ruts, and uneven areas while redistributing the existing gravel.

    Finished Regrade

Everything included with the Essential Regrade, plus hand-raking of driveway edges and detailed hand-finishing of remaining imperfections.

    Compacted Regrade

Everything included with the Finished Regrade, plus vibratory compaction to create a tighter, more stable, and more durable finished surface.

    When Additional Materials Are Needed

Regrading works with the gravel you already have. However, some situations require additional materials or services that are priced separately:

    • New gravel — if the driveway has lost significant material depth
    • Drainage corrections — drainage ditches or swales to redirect water away from the surface
    • Major base repair — where the sub-base has failed and needs rebuilding

We'll let you know during the assessment if any of these apply to your driveway and provide a separate quote for that work.

    What to Expect

    Assessment

We look at the existing gravel depth, the severity of potholes and ruts, the drainage pattern, and the slope of the driveway. This determines which service level makes sense and whether additional materials are needed.

    The Work

We use a Harley rake to loosen and regrade the existing gravel surface, redistribute material to fill low spots, re-establish the center crown, shape the edges, and — if you've selected the Compacted Regrade — run a vibratory compactor to tighten the surface. The goal is a driveway that sheds water properly and holds up to vehicle traffic.

    Site Conditions to Consider

    • Existing gravel depth — deeper gravel gives us more material to work with
    • Slope — steeper driveways may need additional drainage features to prevent washouts
    • Drainage — if water flows across the surface from uphill, drainage correction may be needed first
    • Base condition — a soft or failed sub-base may require additional work beyond regrading
